I wanted to bring this up as a discussion because its something I haven't really thought about for a while until I saw a recent tweet/article. Is planned obsolescence a growing issue? Best Practices & General IT.Hi all,I have a user whose mailbox is used for sending customer invoices, so their sent items folder fills up every few months because of attached PDF's.I can't seem to find any way to create the rule where this user is the sender and the rule is to kick. Sent items rules, how to? Collaboration.

The PROBLEM is that something that DID work, now does NOT work and I would like to know why and how to fix it. I never stated it is a problem to connect to a VPN for remote firewall management. I'm not sure why that is so difficult for some to grasp. I ONLY care about the question at hand here. I do not care about best practice or security, etc.
This was only in regards connecting to ASDM remotely in the manner that it worked initially, WITHOUT connecting to a VPN. Regardless if I had multiple VPN's available to connect to that were working, that was not the point of this question. Still no access to ASDM remotely though, pretty frustrating. If there is a PPTP VPN in place now (or any VPN, for that matter) then what exactly is the problem with connecting to it for remote firewall management? Still no access to ASDM remotely though, pretty frustrating. I'm sure I will get alot of hate from the IT community for that, but I can't stand Cisco and I've been dealing with SonicWALLS since 05 and am just more comfortable with them. I will be replacing this Cisco junk with a SonicWALL at my first opportunity. I found I also had to add GRE 47 to the ACL and then I was able to get connected. I just spent nearly an hour trying to figure out why the ASA was still blocking the connection even though the port was verified open. They are NOT using the builtin Cisco An圜onnect VPN. One of the ports we were opening was 1723 for the PPTP VPN service on the NAS. Cisco has made it that way because it is such a bad idea so it's much easier to set up an An圜onnect VPN and access it from that and that also keeps the "don't do that" crowd off your back (who are really just trying to be helpful). Thanks Steve, Never mind the folks badgering you because ASDM from the outside is a very bad idea, it's just simply difficult to accomplish as you have to bypass several types of security to have it work. The only change I made was adding a service group and opening the necessary ports for the NAS, none of which are 443 or 444. the URL doesnt load and ASDM doesnt connect.
Remote ASDM access worked perfectly the first time I connected to it from my home office, and then the next day it was dead.

The client didn't even know the login info, he had to dig it up in an old email and it was still the generic "changeme" type password that the other company setup. This firewall was installed by another IT company over a year ago and never touched since then.

On the inside line, if you install it, I would limit the IP address ranges that can connect to it.Īlso, ensure the DNS name you have configured it correct, maybe try using the iP address insteadThanks Brian, I have confirmed that it is setup as you show in your post but it still doesn't work.

Now from you PC type " replacing DEVICE with the name or IP address of the interface you are allowing access to.Ĭhange outside or inside to the name of your interface (most people use OUTSIDE and INSIDE as they are default). The configuration to allow management of an ASA via ASDM is pretty much the same as SSH
